All day Friday and on Saturday mornings, PCAS offers an Open Studio time when children ages 2+ can use the studio accompanied by one parent or caregiver. For $10 per child, your kids can make art for as long as they like with an endless array of supplies. Families who receive public assistance are encouraged to give $5 per child (please bring proof of eligibility, like the Oregon Trail Card). During Open Studio, your kids are more than welcome to play with clay, however, there is a $5 firing fee (3 pieces max.) NO RESERVATIONS NECESSARY. And please remember to wear clothes and shoes that can get messy! To read a review of our Open Studio, visit PDX Kids Calendar at: http://pdxkidscalendar.com/review-portland-child-art-studio-dec14/
Open Studio Hours Friday 10-1pm and 2-5:00pm Saturday 10-1pm
How can you help your child to have a successful Open Studio experience at PCAS?
*Allow your child to explore all of the materials in the studio, as there is so much to discover. *Nurture your child's process of making art rather than being focused on their finished product. *It's okay to make a bit of a mess. We want your child to use lots and lots of glue and paint. On the flip side, you can also help your child to understand that we use only the amount we need for our projects. *Often, kids take the lead and engage in a very natural way with the space and the art materials available to them. There is rarely a need to intervene in their artistic process, except maybe to help them reach something that is too high or mix up another special color of paint. However, if you have come to the studio on a day when your child may need a little extra direction, PCAS teachers are here to provide you with tools and ideas to help you and your child get started. *Bring a snack. It will provide your child with a second wind to make even more art. *Feel free to help us keep the studio materials organized and neat. We appreciate your assistance.
